With all of the various and unique types of instruments out there for you to try your hand at, you may find yourself at a crossroads; should I take piano or guitar? Is guitar harder than the piano? These are questions that are asked by many people. Both are common instruments to learn, but require different skills and knowledge to play. Both are rewarding and have many benefits, but the guitar may take a little more time and effort to conquer, but it is all worth it.
How piano may be harder than guitar
Like the guitar, you are playing with both hands at the same time. The left hand is playing a melody or one chords while the right hand is playing a different melody or chords simultaneously, this can be very difficult to do on the guitar, but piano players do it all the time. On the piano, you can play ten notes at once, but the guitar you can only play six at once.
How piano may be easier than guitar
All of the keys are next to each other the run from low to high and A-G with sharps and flats included so it is easier to know where your next note is going to be. The order of the keys stay the same so it is easier for you to play the same thing in many different octaves. Unlike the guitar, you only have to do one thing to make a sound come out-press a key.
The extra challenges with the guitar
You have to do two things before any note can be played on the guitar, You have to hold down a string at the right frat and pick at that strong at the exact same moment for the right sound to be played. There are six strings that are all tuned to a different scale, unlike the piano which only has one scale across the board. Because all the strings are tuned differently, there are multiple forms of the same chord, but in a different register
There are many varying ways to pay the guitar and different ways to place your fingers which affects the sound and note you play, To play the guitar, there are many ways you have to place your fingers on the strings, how hard or firm you press your finger on the fingerboard, how you place your finger and how you even play out the note, you can pluck, strum, use a pluck t play, your fingers to play, or using a combination of all.
There may be extra challenges you have to conquer and work on in order to play the guitar, that does not come with playing the piano, but in the end, it is all worth it because you feel proud of what you accomplished and have a multitude of new skills both musically and in your social life that you didn’t have before.
