Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. With flowing movements similar to ballet, jazz dancers combine sharp turns, large leaps and quick footwork in a show of flexibility and grace. As you can imagine, all of these moves makes jazz dance an energetic and fun workout! In addition, there are many health benefits with jazz dancing including increased strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance.
1. Increased Strength
One benefit of jazz dancing is increased strength. The energetic, full-bodied nature of jazz dance develops arm strength from the floor work, leg strength from the jumps, and core strength from coordinating the limbs. Participate in a jazz dance class and your entire body will be strengthened!
2. Increased Flexibility
As with many dance forms, flexibility is also increased in jazz. Jazz dance consists of stretching sequences that will lengthen the larger muscles of the legs and lower back. Flexibility and range of motion will also be increased in the hips, shoulders, and spine.
3. Increased Coordination
Challenging steps and combinations, in which the upper and lower body parallel and contrast each other in numerous ways, create increased coordination in jazz dancers. Remember the challenge to rub your head and pat your tummy at the same time? That task becomes simple for jazz dancers who learn complex rhythmic patterns. Additionally, with the light-footed moves and lightning fast steps in jazz, you will be developing poise and grace and better coordination and balance in no time!
4. Increased Endurance
As mentioned before, jazz dancing is very energetic! The infectious, high-energy rhythmic music and motions lead to increased endurance and stamina. It is easy to see how your athletic endurance will increase as you participate week after week in a jazz class.
