What are String Instruments?
A string instrument is best described as an instrument that produces sound by vibrating the strings on it. The bodies of string instruments are hollow inside which allows sound to vibrate within them. The strings are also played most often by drawing a bow across them.
Sometimes the musicians will use their fingers to pluck the strings, and occasionally they will turn the bow upside down and play the strings with the wooden handle.
What are String Instruments Made of?
The bodies of the string instruments are made of different kinds of wood, but the strings are made of nylon, steel or sometimes gut. The handle of the bow is made of wood and the strings of the bow are actually horsehair from horse’s tails!
