The Leap n’ Learn dance curriculum was developed by master dance teacher, Beverly Spell, and child psychologist, Dr. Annie Spell. These amazing women make sure that all Leap ‘n Learn studios go through training and monthly check-ins so that they produce the best teachers and maintain a high quality of teaching for young students. These dance classes are welcoming environments that encourage the students to be creative.
The Early Childhood Dance Program is designed for children between the ages of three to seven. The Ballet I and Ballet II Programs are designed for students ages eight to twelve. These programs help to build strong foundations in dance and movement. Lessons focus on the following basic elements: physical space and how we relate to it, locomotor and non-locomotor movement, musical awareness, directions, elementary positions and movements of ballet, self-awareness, teamwork, creative expression, imagination, basic body and health awareness, classroom behavior and manners, taking turns, following and leading, working with others, and having a positive attitude.
Beverly Spell is the director of Leap ‘n Learn and has taught ballet for over 35 years. She has also owned her own studio since 1998. She trained with many great teachers at many great dance schools. She serves as a guest teacher for student master classes and ballet workshops throughout the United States. She is recognized in the dance world as a leading authority on children’s dance education. Teachers all over the world are using this fabulous dance curriculum to share Beverly’s training for their dance students.
Dr. Annie Spell received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. Her main focus is on child development. She then earned her masters degree in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University, and continued to receive her doctorate in child clinical psychology from LSU. No she has a private practice as a licensed and board certified clinical psychologist, specializing in children and adolescents. Her involvement with Leap ‘n Learn began by discussing classroom management solutions with Beverly, and grew from there. These two amazing women are still changing lives all over the dance world together!
