Drum Lessons
Everybody knows one of the coolest people in a band is the drummer. Whether its percussion in the marching band or rocking out on stage, the drummer can either make or break the cohesiveness of a song. When done well, it can heighten the expression of the song. There are so many benefits of learning the drums and crafting that skill in a lesson.
-
- It helps reduce stress! As we know, life has a series of ups and downs, full of moments that need their energy released positively. Some people run, some people dance, and some people drum! Similar to that good ole “runner’s high”, drumming can release the same feel-good endorphins after playing music. This will increase your mood as well! So when life hits you hard, grab your drumsticks and play to your favorite song.
- It increases academic performance! There are several studies that show how music can improve someone’s learning ability in the classroom. It can aid in identify emotional cues like in English when one must process through a characters’ motive. Also there is a notably higher percentage excelling in math classes in rhythm students. So if you are a parent hesitating about adding another activity to your child’s plate, it might not be such a bad idea to add drums. It may help them perform better in school.
- It boosts brain power! Even if you have played the game Rock Band, you can tell that the drumming takes a lot of hand eye coordination. All four limbs are engaged constantly to work together to create the epic rhythms. You have to work with your dominant and non-dominant hands at the same time to ensure you are staying on beat. This will strengthen your non-dominant side. Understanding musical notes and dissecting the rhythms in a song is a complex and rewarding thought process. Some researchers have even said that it can actually improve one’s IQ level.
- It develops confidence! Drumming is a powerful language. A successful drummer is not only someone who can stay on the beat, but also someone who plays dynamically: loud and soft. Though you aren’t going to be Ringo Starr from the Beatles right off the bat, certainly practicing hard work is a skill you can value for a lifetime. You must develop a growth mindset. You have to take your time on parts that seem overly complex and break them down. You start slow, then gradually speed up to the correct beats for minute. You are challenged to break complex drum lines into manageable parts. Believing in yourself through the whole of that process can help you endure through tough obstacles in life.
