This summer, July 11-14, we will be having our first Summer Dance Camp at OSMD!! The camp is for students age 3 and up, and the camp for the girls is themed with the Disney movie “Frozen.” At the camp, they students will dance to music from the movie, do some arts and crafts based on the theme of the movie, and have snacks based on the theme of the movie each day. Here are some things that you should know about the movie if you are planning to come to dance camp this summer!
- Frozen is a 3D computer-animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
- It is the 53rd animated feature by Walt Disney Pictures.
- The movie was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen.
- Frozen premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California on November 19, 2013.
- It ranks as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, the third highest-grossing original film of all time, the ninth highest-grossing film of all time, and the highest-grossing film of 2013.
- The movie won two Academy Awards for Best Animated Picture and Best Original Song, “Let It Go.” The song “Let It Go” was written in a single day by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
- The movie also won two Grammy Awards for Best Compilations Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
- The movie earned $1.274 billion worldwide!
- Critics say that Frozen captures the classic Disney spirit of the earlier classics, and that is one of the reasons why it was so successful.
- Another reason the film was so popular is because it didn’t have a typical villain. Elsa was just a girl having some trouble, not a true villain.
- The director of Frozen, Chris Buck, never expected the film to be as huge as it has become. He says it is because there are characters people can relate to and songs that are memorable.
